Beginning August 9, 2021, Masks will be required indoors for all RCS students, staff, and visitors.

August 6, 2021

Good day Fellow Red Devils,

First and foremost, I hope this memorandum finds you safe, secure, and healthy. The reason for my correspondence is to inform you that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently released an update to its previously provided guidance pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, given new evidence on the (Delta) variant of COVID-19, the CDC, has highly recommended universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors of PreK-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status.

Throughout this pandemic, RCS and schools all over the country have humbly taken heed to the guidance we have received from the CDC, Indiana Department of Health (IDOH), the Wayne County Health Department (WCHD), and other health professionals dedicated to maximizing our overall health and safety. Last year, RCS was highly successful during our implementation of the Return to In-Person Learning protocols. As a result, our school corporation was able to adapt, adjust, and overcome so many challenges associated with this pandemic.

Therefore, in an attempt to exercise some good ol’ Richmond common sense, effective Monday, August 9, 2021, universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors of PreK-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status will be required. RCS officials will be monitoring data and relying upon guidance from the above health professionals, to determine when we can safely return to mask free learning environments.

In closing, vaccination is currently the leading public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic. Masking, washing hands, and social distancing is a close second. RCS will continue to encourage our entire community to partner with us to provide protections for those that mean the most to us all, our students.

Respectfully yours,
Dr. Curtis L. Wright, Superintendent
Richmond
